Met Gala 2016 Favorites
The Met Gala is undoubtedly the most fashionable and elegant night of the year for celebrities. Hundreds of well-known faces parade up the steps of the Met dressed in head-turning, jaw-dropping and fashion-forward pieces.
One reasons I love the Met Gala (and arguably fashion in general) is each look showcased by its respectful celebrity is more than what it appears. Each outfit is actually a piece of art. It speaks volumes to the time and thought designers, stylists and celebrities put behind their ensembles.
Unlike other events, the Met Gala is one that represents a new theme every year, and each ensemble worn on the red carpet fits within that theme. This year’s theme was “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.” I personally really liked this theme….which shouldn’t come as a shock if you’ve read some of my older posts.
Even though (almost) everyone looked fabulous, I do wish we saw more red carpet looks incorporate actual technology into their pieces. We’re living in a day and age where technology impacts every industry around us, and the creative outlet it can provide is unbelievable. I personally believe with the use of some tech, a lot of these designers could have really excelled their pieces - similar to what Zac Posen did with his Cinderella inspired dress for Claire Danes that incorporated LED lights throughout and shined when the lights were out. It was a classic look with a modern twist.
Regardless, even with the small amount of tech incorporated into the outfits, I still really enjoyed seeing what everyone wore. Some were very out there, others modern, and a handful of classic looks - it was an evening filled with glitz and glamour.
