Tight Midi Dress
Last month I wore something I honestly never usually wear...
A very tight body fitting midi dress.
Now let me be the first one to tell you I immediately felt like a Kardashian when I put this dress on. It's very similar to the body forming dresses all the Kardashian sisters generally wear. These dresses are so tight they show all of your curves...and honestly can make you feel really self conscious especially if you don't like to show off your "problem areas".
I was SUPER self conscious when I first put this one. I was heading to an exclusive Poshmark + Rebecca Minkoff party in West Hollywood LA and I needed to rock a cute outfit. Unfortunately the outfit I had planned for the event didn't end up working out and I was scrambling to find something to wear. Luckily my girlfriend had a few extra outfits and offered me this dress. It took quite a bit of convincing for me to walk out of our hotel room wearing this dress. Not because the dress isn't cute (I actually loved it) but because I didn't know if I felt comfortable in my own skin. I felt like I was showing off too much. I wasn't born to rock the Kardashian fashion trends. After much deliberation...I went to the party wearing this dress...and by the end of the night I felt SO confident in it I scared myself.
The dress is from Urban Outfitters--they currently have a ton of these dresses on their website if you're coveting something similar--and I paired it with a black bomber jacket from Zara, black H&M booties and a sporty Marc Jacobs bag.
I really do love this look and have been thinking about purchasing a dress like this for my closet. While I was body conscious for the first part of the evening, I told myself I need to embrace this outfit and what I look like in it. Because after I saw pictures I thought I looked really good and everything I thought "stood out" before was all in my head. I felt empowered.
I now understand why these dresses are such a statement for women. Not because it shows off our curves, but because it makes us feel confident. It makes you realize that you don't need to hide behind layers of fabric, or be ashamed of what you might think is a "problem area" on your body.
You just have to rock it and embrace yourself!!!
