Review: Marc Jacobs Beauty #CoconutGlow Highlighter

You guys...summer is right around the corner. Isn't that insane?!

This year, just like every other year, is going by super fast. We're a little over one month away from it officially being summer and that means it's time to get your summer glow ready.

Now, that means something different for everyone, and we generally see it categorized in two buckets: the people who tan to glow and the people who fake the glow.

I can't tan to save my life. My fair skin turns bright red like a lobster if I'm in the sun for more than 10 minutes (with or without sunscreen). You'd honestly never guess I'm Persian based on my complexion alone. Tan for me is turning "off-white" by the end of the summer. It's one of those things where I think I look super tan but no one else notices the difference.

Because of my fair skin I fall into the second bucket...aka "fake the glow" with makeup. I'm personally not a huge fan of bronzer (because it doesn't make sense with my skin tone), so I generally stick to a really good highlighter to do the trick.

I was recently chosen by Influenster to participate in the Marc Jacobs Beauty VoxBox featuring the brands' new Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter. When I got the email I got so excited I could hardly wait to get my package for a few reasons.

First, I really love Marc Jacobs Beauty. I've tried a few of their products in the past and have been really happy with the outcome. Second, I love highlighters, but have never been able to find a liquid highlighter I really liked. For the last few years I've been using Bobbi Brown's Shimmer Brick Compact in beige. If you're looking for a powder/compact highlighter I definitely recommend that one.

The issue I have with most liquid highlighters is they are too thick and look really unnatural. Even if you use a tiny amount it can give you a cake-y finish. I was thoroughly surprised to find that wasn't the case with Marc Jacobs #CoconutGlow gel highlighter.

At a first glance, I already loved the product packaging. It's sleek, simple, and comfortable to hold in your hands. The body is matte glass with a white lid and a pump that was very easy to control – which is important when it comes to this product because less is more!

The only way to describe my thoughts about this product is...

It smells like coconut and shimmers like the sun!!

I've never had a product that smelled this good before. The coconut smell seems very real vs. artificial which is a major plus. It also makes you feel very relaxed – think vacation vibes – which is a nice touch when you're getting ready for a manic day at work. While I can go on and on about how good the gel smells, it's the actual product itself that's worth raving about.

This is definitely the best liquid highlighter I've ever tried. It very pigmented and has a beautiful gold and bronze finish with an eye catching shimmer. You really don't need to use a lot of this highlighter to see it in action. Plus, the shine lasts all day so you don't need to reapply at all.

There are many different ways you can use this highlighter. I personally use it after I put on foundation and concealer and use a small Beauty Blender and apply this on my cheekbones, nose, forehead and chin. If you want an elevated glow  then mix a tiny bit of this highlighter in with your foundation for a very dewy and shimmery finish on your entire face (this is a good option for summer). After you applied the highlighter you can apply your powder as you usually do. The formula is so pigmented that it will show through your powder.

It's important to note that this product dries very quickly as soon as you put it on so you'll need to work fast. I don't recommend using a face brush to blend it in because it won't blend very well. So opt in for a sponge (Beauty Blender is my preference) so it will mix evenly with your foundation.

So why did this liquid highlighter work better for me than other ones?

It has to do with the texture of the formula. Because this product is gel based the consistency is different. It's thick and sticky, which is why it lasts all day. Plus, because the product dries quickly you don't have to worry about it wiping off your face.

This highlighter has become one of my favorite beauty products, and I highly recommend it for anyone who is either new to highlighters or a pro with them. If you're looking for the perfect summer glow, then be sure to pick up a bottle of this Marc Jacobs Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter ASAP!
